MEWEM

MEWEM is the first mentoring program dedicated to women in the Romanian music industry. 10 women leaders in the music industry – artists or record label managers, festival promoters, communication specialists and independent artists – will guide, for 3 months, 10 women at the beginning of their career in the music industry. Throughout this time, they will provide support, understanding, information, inspiration and share learning experiences.

About MEWEM

MEWEM is the first mentoring program dedicated to women in the Romanian music industry. The program focuses on the issue of professional inequality between women and men in the cultural and creative industries.

Even though the Romanian scene is known for its female artists, the entrepreneurial environment behind the scenes is still dominated by men. This project aims to set the tone for a change that balances gender representation in the creative industries and encourages the professional development of women. Specifically, 10 women leaders in the music industry – artists or record label managers, festival promoters, communication specialists and independent artists – will guide, for 3 months, 10 women at the beginning of their career in the music industry. Throughout this time, they will provide support, understanding, information, inspiration and share learning experiences.

MEWEM is a project with a positive social impact, outlined on a creative background, co-founded by Creative Europe inside the framework of Music Moves Europe program.

Join the program

If you want to join the MEWEM program, please answer the questions in the form. All of the details requested in the form are confidential and they will only be used in the matchmaking process.
In the first place, we would like to underline the following matters:
If you will be accepted in the program, you have to attend all of the events, workshops and the individual meetings with your mentor. They will all take place online, or in Bucharest, according to the given timeline.
If you will be accepted in the program, you need to be available for the meetings, over the whole period of the program ( 3rd of June – 8th of September 2021).
Given the fact that the mentors have often a very busy schedule, as a mentee, you are expected to have a flexible schedule for the individual meetings. The time, the location and the frequency of the individual meetings are going to be established in private, by both of you. You can meet once a month, twice a month, for one hours or more, for lunch, or for a coffee after work.
Besides the individual meetings with your mentors, there are going to be some group meetings as well:

  • June 3, 2021: Kick-Off Event
  • June 16, 2021: Group meeting I
  • July 13, 2021: Group meeting II
  • July 28, 2021: Workshop day
  • August 18, 2021: Group meeting II
  • September 8, 2021: Closing party

The kick-off event and the group meetings are mandatory. If you are unable to attend the kick-off event and / or several of the other meetings, we are sorry to inform you that you must refrain from applying.

Until the 21st of April 2021, we will select 10 candidates that were the best match for our mentors. If you’re going to be one of the ten selected mentees, you will be contacted by our team until 26th of April 2021.

Applications are now closed!

The deadline to submit your applications was on Sunday the 18th of April 2021. Thank you for your interest! 🙂

FAQ

MEWEM is a mentoring program that brings together experts in the music industry, in various fields (record companies, PR, artistic management, booking, etc.), as well as as self-marketing artists.

MEWEM’s goal is to promote a diverse economy and society. This mentoring program will be inaugurated this year in Romania, in cooperation with RAW Music, Mastering the Music Business (MMB) and Women in Music Romania, with EU support, through the Creative Europe program. MEWEM Romania is expanding the scope of this international project, which is currently taking place in Germany, France, Belgium, Spain and Austria.

The program will begin with a half-day kick-off event in mid-May and provide long-term support for the professional and personal development of 10 women in the music industry.

The program consists of two pillars: individual meetings between the participant and mentor, for the organisation and content of which the participants themselves are responsible, and group meetings on topics relevant for participants (eg: playlists, radio, copyright), which take place in the form of panels or workshops with external speakers.

The mentoring program is part of the MEWEM Europe network and aims to connect women in the music industry. The aim of the network is to create a platform for further education, to meet inspiring people and to increase awareness of women within and outside the music industry. The long-term goal is that in the future more women – including those in management positions and as founders – will help shape the industry.

Any person who defines herself as a woman, who sees her own future in the areas of labels, publishing, distribution, booking, promotion or as a self-marketing artist and who already has some experience in the music industry can apply.

Therefore, applications are open to young professionals who are about to graduate and have some practical experience or who have already completed their first years in the music business.

Mentees should have the desire and ability to participate in the entire program and bring concrete ideas on the topics they would like to approach with their mentor. We expect all participants to take part in the group meetings, including those that will take place physically, in Bucharest. Therefore, before applying, participants must ensure that they can be present in Bucharest on the dates mentioned for group meetings and workshops.

MEWEM Romania 2021 mentors are:

Laura Coroianu – Managing Partner EMAGIC
Anamaria Hâncu – Communications Manager INNA & Antonia
Anca Lupeș – Founder of Mastering The Music Business
Carina Sava – Founder & Artist Manager, Watermelon Agency
Olga Juverdeanu – CEO of Global Records
Cristina Bazavan – Journalist | Communications specialist
Ioana Chereji – PR Manager UNTOLD & Neversea
Alina Manole – Independent artist
Iulia Pop – Co-founder & PR Manager, Overground Music
Iulia Popovici – Journalist Performing arts curator

The relationship between mentor and mentee is entirely in their hands. This means that they themselves decide how often, when and where they want to meet – apart from the monthly events, organized for all participants. This can be, for example, a regular lunch meeting or a coffee every two weeks and can be adapted to the professional and private obligations of the mentors. Mentees should be aware of how much time their mentors have, so that they can make the most of it and react flexibly to their mentor’s suggested dates.

As of now, applications can be made using our application form.

We check all incoming applications and look closely at which applicant fits best to the mentor in question based on her/their experience and goals. That’s why we are happy to receive expressive applications that clearly show us what you bring, what you expect and where you want to go.

The 10 candidates who are selected will be contacted by our team on April 26, 2021.

We will select 10 participants and we will be match them with the corresponding mentors. All participants selected for the program will receive an email at the end of April. Then, we will introduce them to the mentor with whom they were associated. Since then, teams can set up individual meetings in particular. Participants should be able to participate actively and consistently throughout the program.

Individual appointments between mentee and mentor: The relationship between mentor and mentee is in the hands and responsibility of the respective persons. This means that they themselves decide how often, when and where they want to meet. At the kick-off meeting they receive guidelines as well as ideas and a reader as a basis for their one-on-one appointments. In addition, a target agreement including a plan for the MEWEM programme should be filled out and signed by each team.

All mentees are expected to be flexible with regard to the time of their individual meetings with their mentors. The mentor is strongly involved due to his/her position, which is why mentees should be prepared to react flexibly to appointment options.

Group meetings: there will be half-day kick-off event to get to know each other and to

learn the mentoring basics as well as a final date for evaluating the programme. In addition, there will be three group meetings and a workshop day. One meeting will be explicitly addressed to mentors and one to mentees (but all group meetings are open to all participants).

Program planning:

  • March 1 – April 18, 2021

Start of the application phase. Mentees can apply for the program. In this way, we can find out more about the expectations of each candidate from the program, mentor, etc., what interests and objectives they have. The application period is open until Sunday, April 18, 2021,

  • April 20-21, 2021

Analyzing the applications and choosing the 10 mentees.

  • April 26, 2021

Mentee and mentor will be introduced to each other by e-mail.

  • June 3, 2021: Kick-Off Event

During the kick-off event, all participants will get to know each other and discuss the program procedure and guidelines. From then on, the monthly meetings will have a specific motto and an external speaker will be invited to a workshop, a lecture or something similar.

From now on, there will be individual meetings of the participants with their mentors.

  • June 16, 2021: Group meeting I
  • July 13, 2021: Group meeting II
  • July 28, 2021: Workshop day
  • August 18, 2021: Group meeting III
  • September 8, 2021: Closing party – Final meeting, dedicated to program evaluation and feedback from participants. All participants will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the program.

If you are unable to attend the kick-off event and / or several of the other meetings, we are sorry to inform you that you must refrain from applying.

If you are not selected as a mentee, we can always inform you directly when a new round of the program will be organized, if you mention that you want this when you fill in the participation form.

If we have not been able to answer your question through the answers provided in this section, send us an e-mail to office@rawmusic.ro.

We ask you to refrain from asking about the status of your application.

And now: Good luck with your application!
